Our Trip to Spain

(October 2006)

We began at the end of the Burton Group Catalyst conference in Barcelona.

I arrived the day the conference ended. I was lucky to get in on a team dinner at a very nice place down around the harbor in Barcelona. We had quite a nice dinner with tapas and seafood. It was raining that night so the view was a bit dim, but we did catch glimspes of the harbor lights. This is my husbands' boss and main owner of the company.

This is me next to Dave. I am in need of a good nights' sleep after having flown to Barcelona that night. Perhaps a visit with Estee Lauder as well!

We took a train to Madrid where we visited many musuems. Our focus was mostly on more modern art although we did go to the Prado where we saw the famous 'Las Meninas'. We also went to the Thyssen and the Sofia. I had been to the Picasso museum in Barcelona the last time I was there, and got even more Picasso this time.

Madrid - Just past the street market We caught the end of a street market. My suitcase was already full so I didn't regret not buying anything!

Madrid - At the Thyssen. They had a John Singer Sargent exhibit. It didn't have the famous woman with her dress falling off but was very interesting. Not like the exhibit we saw in Washington. > From Madrid we took a day trip to Segovia. It was chilly there but worth seeing. They have a Roman Aquaduct that is amazing to see.

It was rainy and chilly in Segovia.

We took an overnight to Toledo. It rained the entire day which made the talks about how the conservation of water in the city was so important seem irrelevant.

Notice the umbrella! We ate at a neat place that was actually within the city wall.

We had a fun time in Spain, despite some delays getting back to Barcelona, and missing our connection in Zurich. We've found out that the conference next year will be in Barcelona again, so we're planning a second visit.
