We saw a magic show last weekend. We'd been going to go to a Blue's place with our friends who live in Baltimore, but that fell through so we headed to the Federal Hill section of the city, ate some Thai food and saw a magic show at Illuminations.
We've been to Federal Hill before because it's where our son who is in law school lives. We've had brunch there and it's always looked like a good place to go and eat, but usually he comes to see us in DC so we haven't actually eaten there much.
Part of what made it fun was that the neighborhood is full of young people, like our son, and it gave us the illusion that we were young too. Can't beat that!

| A tasty Thai dinner. |
We started with Thai food. Our friend Jim had been there before. It's a storefront with no liquor license but on Saturday night it was packed. The day was decently warm so we waited outside until we were called. I had something with pork, noodles and peanuts that was very good. Dan brought a bottle that they served and I sprung for the Thai ice-tea, which was a smoky tea, maybe ooglong, with coconut milk in it.
After a quick meal we headed to the bar, Illuminations. The magician, Spencer Horsman is young, maybe 24-25. His parents were clowns with Barnum & Bailey before settling down to run a magic shop in the area, so he got an early start on magic and entertainment. The show culminates with him, upside down and wiggling out of a straight jacket. Quite a feat.

| Our magician gets a little help from a super hero. |
He's got lots of card tricks. In this one the young lady was in the audience. She picked a card and signed it. He shuffled it into the deck and is going to have her pluck it out of his pant pocket.
In a wry scene the superhero ambles out, and puts the card into his pocket, just so we can see the magic.
Later he went on to burn a $20 bill, and then pluck it from one of the oranges on the table. No superhero help was needed there.
It's worth seeing if you find yourself in Charm City.
