I look for hats with high crowns. I can twist my hair into a clip on the top of my head and put the hat over it. When I take the hat off the twisted-up hair will still have some shape when it comes down and I avoid hat hair. I have had some close calls with bird droppings as I walk to work under various power lines, so that's another plus.
This hat looks a lot like a hat I pinned on Pinterest, except it wasn't several hundred dollars.
