At last, the movie version of friend
Captain Phillips has arrived. The GNU House contingent, otherwise thought of as "book club" went to Baltimore for a showing.
We went to the newly re-opened Senator Theater.
For anyone
who might have forgotten, the GNU House contingent is a core group of friends we met in the DC area some 30+ years ago. We were forever bonded by the trials of living in a group house.
We started the evening off at Sophie's Crepes. All diets were suspended.
Gail Chow, rising to the red carpet, wore the formal she bought at the Source Theater street sale a few months back.
Kate channeled her inner Diva, showing off the fur stole her mother left her. I've got a fur jacket from my mother-in-law in the basement, maybe it's time to get that out.
We pretty much took the crepe place over. We tried to show some restraint as a post movie party was planned.

Laurie, who didn't live at GNU house, but joined our group as an honorary member by virtue of working at Dialcom with Wendy and husband is recently divorced. Ex-husband Jonathan, a nice enough fellow, was not an attendee at most GNU reunions. This fellow, accompanied Laurie, who eluded attempts to photograph her. I want to say Welcome! and I wish I remembered your name.
The theater has a place in Baltimore film history. While they may not have had the stars, if a film had a Baltimore connection they had the characters here. Ann Tyler, author of "The Accidental Tourist" signed her Baltimore star. John Walters is on the "Hairspray" block. Strictly speaking Tom Clancy author of "Hunt for Red October" wasn't from Baltimore, but he was closer to B'more than DC so he belongs as well.
The film, which we all loved, had an unscheduled intermission. A woman sitting next to brother-of-Captain Phillips -shown left became ill during the movie, so the show was stopped until the rescue squad arrived.
You just never know what's going to happen in
Charm City.
