Our second day was directed toward traveling from Price to Moab. We had a scenic route through the San Rafael Swell.
This was kind of exciting because we had the map, no iPhone service, and navigated our way through some back roads. The dotted lines on the map show where we made our way through the countryside, putting the 4 WD vehicle we rented to good use.
For our efforts we saw some petroglyphs.
One of our less than stellar navigation schemes was a side trip to the Black Dragon Canyon, circled in purple on my map. There are supposed to be petroglpyhs there but they're pretty well hidden.
The search began with the instructions - open the gate, which is shown. Then, carefully following the directions we drove along a muddy road. At the appointed place we stopped, not sure whether we should drive up what looked like a pretty un-drivable area. 
So we parked and got out. Just as well we didn't try to drive that, it was quite steep with slippery shale. Back down we looked and looked, finally deciding the petrographic had been allowed to hide behind overgrowth to protect them.
Back to Moab we got a better look at the Swell, which from the south side is a series of rocky shovel-shaped mountains. Oh where is the Chinese artist?
